Your Rights: If the police or immigration detains you

• Maintain silent. It is your right. Do not say anything about where you were born or how you entered the country. You are only obligated to tell them your name and address.
  
• Be courteous and tell the officers that you want to speak with your lawyer before answering any questions.
  
• Always have a lawyers name and number with you. Give the officer your lawyer’s business card or his name and number.
  
• Never lie or present/display false documention.
  
• You should not sign any documents, especially a voluntary deportation, without consulting a lawyer.
