Dedications, Remembrances, and Accolades to Mom

by IRM
From Rosie Garcia
My Puerto Rican mom Rosa Banchs, 93 years old, died April 2009. I’ll miss her and remember mom best as an orator of Spanish riddles and poetry like this one (translated):

Why do I love you?
I love you for your goodness and pure heart
Because you return my kisses with more kisses
Why do you smile when you see me smile?
Why do you tear when you see me cry?
Because you know my thoughts and give me more
Than I could ever want
You guide my steps and do right by me
From your mouth pour words as sweet as honey

From Lupita Parrales
To my Mexican mother, to remember you is to remember your deep love, your scent and the safety of a zone of protection you provided. Your smiles at my accomplishments gave me the strength to do more for myself. Though you are not here with me your memory gives me reason to fear no adversary because I sense your presence and everlasting protection.

To those moms who were not able or chose not to be with their children for what ever reason, I thank you for being bearers of life.

From Frances Matute
To my Dominican mom - Where can I begin to thank you for always being there for me? Your strengths as a single parent will always be admirable. You have shown me the true power and strength of a mother’s love. Thank you for your unconditional love and showing me that a mother’s love is the closest thing to God’s love because your love never had any limits. It never decreased no matter what the circumstances. You truly are the backbone of what my brother and I are today. I love you and may God continue to give you life so we could have you and your support as long as possible.

Happy Mother’s Day!
