2008 Summit on Education Reform and Hispanic Education Attainment

“We prepare parents to advocate for their children’s education,” said David Valladolid, President and CEO of Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE).

Mr. Valladolid, Maria Lopez and many other executive leaders of partnering organizations reported on their program challenges and successes during the September 11, 2008 Summit on Education Reform and Hispanic Education Attainment. Adam Chavarria, Executive Director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans led the event.

On October 12, 2001 the presidential executive order 13230 known also as “No Child Left Behind” created the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans.  Seven years later, the September 11 Summit drew reports on the causes and narrowing of dropout rates in the Hispanic population, gaining college credits during high school, and educating and empowering parents to help their children succeed and more.

Speakers such as Treasurer, Anna Escobedo Cabral and Margaret Spellings, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education highlighted successes of the initiative outcomes and congratulated all involved with a call to reauthorize the initiative.
