In a unique urban campaign, the city of San Francisco, Calif., has started running multi-lingual advertisements informing illegal immigrants that they are safe within the city's limits and that city authorities will not report them to the federal government, The New York Times reported. San Francisco is not alone in not cooperating with the federal government on immigration raids and other enforcement; New York, Washington D.C. and Detroit also have sanctuary statuses. Some San Francisco residents worry that the advertising will draw immigrants into San Francisco from outlying towns and communities, changing the feel of the city.

Reggaeton star Don Omar will marry Univisión presenter Jackie Guerrido at the San Juan Ritz-Carlton on April 19, according to People Magazine. Omar described the upcoming event as "a fairy-tale wedding." Wisin and Yandel, Gilberto Santa Rosa and Grupomanía will perform at the celebrations following the ceremony.

On Monday, President Bush moved to force an up-or-down vote in Congress on a controversial free-trade pact with Colombia, The Associated Press reported. Democrats, led by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, object to the agreement, largely on the grounds that Colombia has not done enough to address the issues of widespread violence, protection of labor activists and paramilitary organizations. Supporters say the agreement will benefit American workers.

In his latest move to improve Cuban economic performance, President Raúl Castro eliminated state mandated salary limits, The New York Times reported. Cubans will now, theoretically, be paid according to their productivity on the job.
