2008 Latino Christmas in Hampton Roads

No traditional northern white Christmas around Hampton Roads yet, but the holiday celebrations begin this week with plenty of animals, choirs, and dramas Latino style. It's all free and open to the public so mark your calendars. On December 12 head to Iglesia de Dios Ebenezer Church for the children’s Christmas drama, "Through the Eyes of the Animals." Starting at 7:30 PM families will see the drama come to life in Spanish. Find the happening in the Redwing Shopping Center at Eaglewood Drive, Virginia Beach. For more questions call 757-422-2997.
If you prefer stories to dramas, ride to Newport News on December 17th and stop at Bethel Baptist Church located at 1847 Briarfield Road. Pastor Jorge Colón, of the Spanish congregation Iglesia Bautista Betel, will be waiting for you as they join Bethel Baptist to recite Christmas stories for the whole family. The activities begin at 7:30 PM and end with distribution of gift bags for all attending children 12 years old and under. Presentations of the Live Nativity with animals and actors also take place on the lawns of Bethel Baptist on December 21, 22, and 23 from 6 to 9 PM. Pastor Colón invites you to call at 757- 826-1536.
Did you know that animals speak Spanish at Christmas? So says Ingleside Church of Norfolk at 925 Ingleside Rd, Norfolk. On December 18 and 19th you'll find one line for Spanish speakers and another line for English speakers where the actors and animals of the Live Nativity perform for you in both languages. Be there for either of the two scheduled sessions 7-8 PM or 8-9 PM. This one-of-a-kind event ends with free hot chocolate and free pictures with the cast. Catch Christin @ 226-3514 for any details.
On December 19 the live Spanish speaking animals have competition with the original modern Christmas drama titled, "What if God Became One of Us?” Don't miss the 7:00 PM curtain at Iglesia Cristiana Nueva Vida meeting at 1214 Thompkins Lane off of Indian River in the facilities of New Life Providence Church, Virginia Beach. The drama has one, remember only one, Spanish performance at 7 PM. 333-0696 is the number for info.
Christmas Eve offers a 7 PM Spanish Mass at St. Gregory Church located at 5345 Virginia Beach Boulevard or Spanish services at either Iglesia Bautista Betel, Newport News at 6 PM or Ingleside in Norfolk from 7-8 PM. You can choose to close the year December 31st with Iglesia de Dios Ebenezer in Virginia Beach starting at 10:00 PM.
